Hill Country Spring-time for change.
Hello all, from your new local winemaker. Its hard to believe I’ve been here for two monthly already - time flies when you are having fun - and we are. In case you haven’t been out lately, the vines have pushed way beyond bud-break and nearly upto the first growing wire. Everyday there is more greenery and we keep on our toes trying to keep these young vines full of the appropriate nutrients.
A couple of weeks ago we got the latest Pinot Grigio and Muscato Blanco into bottle. The extra tank space opened up to start the red blends before it gets too warm. The red wines have aged gracefully and will soon be ready for bottle as well. We are particularly excited about the potential for our new Bucking Horse Red Wine.
Each day is an adventure here on North Lake Travis and we do hope you’ll drop in to enjoy a glass of wine with us. - I always say, “When you are bored and don’t know what to do but don’t want to stay home, when its too windy, when its too hot, when its too whatever, its always a perfect day to go wine tasting at Flat Creek.”
No commentsnew year, new beginnings
On a cold & wintry day, there’s still much happening at Flat Creek Estate. If you drop by…even on the coldest day…you’re likely to see the pruning underway in the vineyards. The “trash pruning” is done first so that the final pruning will be easier. We’re already anticipating budbreak…generally March 17!
While the vineyards get much of our attention at this time of year, new ideas for events, music & classes are underway. We’ve decided to host our own Wine Dinner on February 9. The evening is nearly booked, & Miss Jane’s classes on February 10 are booked! We’re planning to add some Sunday afternoon “Jammin’ in the Vineyard” music as the weather warms. Watch for our March schedule.
The wines???? Well, the Pinot Grigio 2007 rocks! The new Sparkling Almond is great fun! Bring in a copy of the blog and have one glass on us (per tasting group). We’re bottling again on March 12. We’ve just transferred the 2007 Cabernet into barrel. We’re meeting with our architect regarding winery expansion….stay tuned.
Come see us,

Christmas is almost here…
The Holiday Open House was a great party. Thank you to all of you who came out to see us. The 2007 Pinot Grigio was a BIG hit! Everyone really enjoyed the new vintage and stocked up for the Holidays! The appetizers were delicious and paired perfectly with the wines.
Last week was a big press week for Flat Creek… On Wednesday there was a great article by Dale Rice in the Austin-American Statesman, “The Pink Rose of Texas”, which featured our Primrosetti Seco. The article was about how the demand is up for dry rose wines made in the Lone Star State.
Then on Sunday, January did an interview on KXAN about pairing Texas wines with your holiday appetizers. Beautiful appetizers were paired by Fete Accompli and Fat Turkey Chocolate with a wide variety of Texas wines. You can view the pairings on the home page of our website. We’ve also added four new appetizer dishes to the recipes page with other wine pairings.
We’re all ready for Christmas here at Flat Creek! Of course we’ll be open all this week if you want to stop by, bring your out-of-town guests, maybe finish gift shopping, or pick up wines for your Christmas dinner. We’ll be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day…but come see us any other time.
Have a very Merry Christmas from all of us at Flat Creek!

The holiday season is here with shorter days and cooler weather. There is a lot happening in the tasting room but all is quiet in the winery.
The shopping spree was a success despite the cold weather. The vendors really stuck it out on Friday in the Pavilion…we had the big fireplace going and they all warmed up with Mulled Wine. On Saturday we piled everyone into the Event Center and had a great time, it really felt like the holidays all bundled up, listening to music, shopping and enjoying wine. Thanks to all of you who visited us over Thanksgiving weekend.
The following Monday we began bottling and finished on Wednesday late afternoon. All went well as we bottled the 2007 Muscato Blanco, Muscato D’Arancia and…yes, it’s back…Pinot Grigio! The bottling line ran smoothly and the wines are definitely meeting our expectations. You’ll be able to taste and purchase the new Pinot Grigio only at the Estate Club Holiday Open House on Thursday, December 13.
In the winery, Sangiovese for the Super Texan has been transferred to oak barrel where it will age. All the tanks are cleaned, the barrels put up and the winery is dormant for a few weeks…Winemaker Vicky and husband Dave have headed off to enjoy a warm Christmas in Australia until after the first of the year.
The Event Center is beautiful with two Christmas trees, a fabulous wreath, festive twinkle lights and more gift ideas than typically available…12 Wines of the Holidays, Gift Boxes, “The Wines That Made Us Famous” 2 pack, local artist glass work, barrel stave candles, Gift Certificates, scarves, stocking stuffers… And if you are enjoying your Estate Club membership, now is a great time to give another wine lover the gift of membership that will last for a whole year!
The Holiday Trail is underway; last weekend we had a great turnout. Local musician Jim Nosler scheduled for this Saturday afternoon in the Event Center.
Now is a great time to visit, it really feels like the Holiday Season around here!
Happy Holidays!
Hope to see you all soon,
The Divas
